Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect on my first visit?

At your first visit, you can expect a comprehensive one hour long evaluation focused on reviewing your medical history, understanding current symptoms, and discussing your goals. Your therapist will perform a thorough orthopedic assessment that will include evaluating mobility, strength, balance, posture, breathing, and functional movement patterns. If indicated due to your complaints, you may also be recommended for an external or internal exam (vaginal or rectal) of your pelvic floor muscles to assess strength, length, and tone of the muscles.

We understand that undergoing a pelvic exam can be a sensitive and uncomfortable experience for some people, and you will ALWAYS have the right to decline or pause any portion of the assessment - your comfort and consent come first. Throughout your visit, your practitioner will provide education, discuss findings, and provide a clear plan for how pelvic floor physical therapy can best support your healing and goals.

Do you accept insurance?

At Haven Pelvic Health, we operate as an out-of-network provider, allowing us to offer personalized, one-on-one care without the limitations set by insurance companies. Payment is due at the time of service, ensuring transparent pricing with no surprise medical bills. Upon request, we’re happy to provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement - please confirm with your individual insurance on their requirements. FSA and HSA cards are also accepted for your convenience.

Do I need a prescription or referral?

No. Florida is a direct access state meaning you don’t need a referral to have physical therapy services. Patients can go directly to their physical therapist without having to wait to receive a prescription or referral from their physician.

I have Medicare - are you able to see me?

Unfortunately at this time, Haven Pelvic Health is not able to see Medicare patients for physical therapy services.

How long are visits?

Each session is a full hour, minimum. We also offer extended sessions for those with more complex needs, or who travel in from further away. Your time is valuable, and we want every minute to move you closer to healing.

Do I need to wait until after I give birth to start pelvic floor physical therapy?

No, you don’t have to wait until after birth to start pelvic floor physical therapy. In fact, pelvic floor therapy during pregnancy can help with pain, pelvic pressure, and preparing your body for delivery. After birth, most women are cleared by their OB-GYN around 6–8 weeks postpartum to gradually return to activity and begin postpartum pelvic floor rehab. Every recovery is unique, so we’ll always tailor care to your specific needs and healing timeline.

Should I cancel my appointment if I have my period?

No. We can provide other beneficial services such as external manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and self-care education. If you’re comfortable, we can still perform internal manual work. If you experience painful periods or are having pain flairs around the time of your period, it can be helpful for to evaluate you while on your period to see how your cycle impacts your symptoms.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Wear comfortable clothing that you can move easily in, such as leggings, joggers, or shorts. Since many sessions involve movement, stretching, and exercise, you’ll want something that allows for flexibility and comfort. If you’re coming before or after work, feel free to bring a change of clothes — there’s space to change at the clinic.

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes! While the initial evaluation is completed in-person, follow-up visits can be done virtually depending on the complexity of your symptoms and your schedule. Virtual sessions are a great option for check-ins, exercise progressions, or ongoing support when you can’t make it into the clinic.

What is the cancellation policy?

We understand that life happens — children get sick, schedules change, and unexpected events arise. However, late cancellations and missed appointments limit our ability to serve other patients who need care. To maintain fair access for all patients, both in-clinic and virtual appointments cancelled within 24 hours are subject to a $75 fee. No-shows (missed appointments without notice) will be charged the full session fee. Exceptions may be made in cases of emergency, illness (especially for postpartum or pediatric reasons), or unsafe travel conditions.
